Four-band Auto EQ
Slowly corrects differences in spectral balance between sources.
How it works
Analysis follows four frequency regions against a lab spectral reference. Corrections are limited to ±3 dB and at most 0.3 dB per second. It can act before or after Impact compression; analysis stays before Impact. Placement is selected at startup, and hold protects delicate passages.
Auto EQ tracks the relative balance of four bands; it does not try to copy another track’s spectrum at every instant. Analysis takes place before Impact. In the post profile, corrections are applied after compression, followed by leveling and limiting.
Parameters and limits
| Parameter | Value / behaviour |
|---|---|
| Bands / crossover | 4 bands · 150 / 1,200 / 6,000 Hz |
| Correction limit | ±3 dB per band |
| Maximum slew | 0.3 dB/s |
| Analysis / smoothing | 100 ms windows; 3 s time constant |
| Adaptation startup | 20 valid windows (2 s of eligible content) |
| Spectral gate | Signal ≥ −50 dBFS and sufficient energy in every band; unsupported passages do not drive adaptation. |
| Speech / hold | Explicit speech context and hold freeze gain updates. |
| Reference | Fixed laboratory reference shared by v1 presets; not an automatically customized EQ for each genre. |
Auto EQ activation and placement are selected at profile startup. The GUI shows corrections, and the v1 presets share the same spectral reference.
What to listen for
Listen to the balance between bass foundation, instrumental body and high-frequency attacks. Compare at matched loudness. The effect is slow and source-dependent; a small difference can mean that the source is already close to the reference.

Use and limits
Results depend on the selected profile, source material, input level and distribution chain. Listen at matched loudness and check output after the codec before keeping a preset.
The public demonstration changes only Auto EQ OFF versus POST within the same profile. It uses a synthesized illustrative excerpt, not a representative music-catalogue evaluation. The displayed spectrum is measured at the output and does not directly represent internal Auto EQ gains.
